A Gynec Onco Kare Society sponsored Educational Programme

Gynec OncoKare Society (GOKS) was registered in 2010 under the Charitable Trust Act, with Dr. Chitrathara serving as President and Mrs. Lovely as Secretary. The organization’s primary objectives include promoting cancer awareness, facilitating early detection through population-based screening camps, supporting treatment, rehabilitating cancer patients, and advancing educational initiatives.

GOKS has organized numerous free Pap smear camps and awareness sessions, often in collaboration with local organizations and NGOs. During these camps, Pap smears are taken in these camps itself and mammogram coupons are distributed. VPS Lakeshore Hospital offers these services at subsidized rates. GOKS bears this amount. Patients identified through screening are provided with further support for treatment.

One of GOKS’s notable initiatives is Pratheekha, a cancer detection program launched to serve women in rural and coastal regions. Under this banner, monthly screening camps were conducted for one year in and around Mulavukad, with the Mulavukad Primary Health Centre (PHC) served as the main venue.

GOKS has provided educational support to numerous children and empowered many women cancer survivors by helping them earn a livelihood—for example, by donating sewing machines and assisting them in setting up small businesses. The organization has also frequently extended its support to the Cochin Palliative Care Society., headed by Mr Ponnan.
